Second International Energy 2030 Conference

The  "Second International Energy 2030 Conference" was held on 4-5 November 2008 in Abu Dhabi. The primary objective of the Conference was to share views and information that could serve critically useful to the strategic planning of research and development in the oil, gas and broader energy areas. This included energy availability and usage, transport, and environmental issues.

Topical areas covered at the Conference included:

The Technical Program comprised of invited Key Note Talks by top experts and scholars from around the world on current and emerging energy resources and technologies that are likely to serve as critically important contributors to the energy supply in various sectors in 20 years time. The 'invitation only' Program was designed to solicit contributions from leading experts in each of the topical areas. Professor Peter Edwards, FRS (Management Director UK-SHEC) presented a paper in Session V: Alternative fuels, entitled The Grand Challenge of the Hydrogen Economy: A Challenge too far?

The Conference also hosted a poster exhibition and a series of technical tutorials on energy resources and technologies within the theme of the conference. In addition, an energy technology arena showcased the latest developments in a variety of energy technologies.

The Conference itself was hosted by the Petroleum Institute at the brand new Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). The conference was sponsored by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) Group of Companies, and was held in conjunction with the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference 2008 (ADIPEC), 3-6 November 2008.
